 | Legislature hosts Early Childhood Summit, David Lawrence speaks David Lawrence, a former publisher and early childhood champion, gave the keynote address on the need to ensure that all kids are school ready by 2020. Lawrence retired in 1999 as publisher of The Miami Herald to work in the area of early childhood development and readiness. He is president of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation and University Scholar for Early Childhood Development and Readiness at the University of Florida. Lawrence's speech is available here.
In addition to Lawrence's speech, Jim Hoolihan, president of the Blandin Foundation, highlighted the "Invest Early" innovative model in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Jon Campbell, CEO of the Minnesota Region of Wells Fargo Bank, discussed the commitment of the state's business community to early childhood.
