Projects

Growth & Justice carries out its mission by exploring and spreading ideas that will address our state's most important economic challenges.

We do this through research, outreach and strategy-focused projects designed to engage policy makers, business leaders, community institutions and citizens in working toward effective solutions.

Our projects are listed below by name. Some may be in the early planning, research and development or active public communication phase. We generally focus one major project at a time.

Governing with Accountability
There's broad support for more public investment in Minnesota — provided citizens are convinced government will spend the money wisely and be held accountable for results. This exploratory project, an outgrowth of Invest for Real Prosperity, will seek to answer such questions as:

  • How do we ensure that our public dollars in Minnesota are wisely spent to achieve specific outcomes?
  • How are state and local governments doing today at holding themselves accountable for measurable results?
  • What structural or process changes could we make in our governments in order to do better?

Through Smart InvestmentsSM in Transportation for Minnesota, Growth & Justice is working with key constituencies, stakeholders, opinion leaders and policy makers to spur sustainable economic growth for the state and expanded economic prosperity for all Minnesotans through smart transportation investments, policies and choices.

That's why we're proposing the state adopt the strategic goal of increasing by half the number of Minnesotans who have a post-secondary degree by the year 2020.

Rethinking Minnesota's Taxes
This 2004-2005 Growth & Justice project addressed how state and local governments should raise their revenue, and why. The goal of the project was to reform Minnesota's tax/revenue system to be more proportional to income and simultaneously good for job growth. It also laid the groundwork for the "how do we raise the money?" portion of Invest for Real Prosperity.
