Growth & Justice hosts special guest Joel Rogers Joel Rogers, founder and head of the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS) and a distinguished professor at the University of Wisconsin, spent some time with Growth & Justice March 14-15, advising us on our institutional growth and on our policy work. On the morning of the 15th, he also made a presentation to about two dozen friends of Growth & Justice.
Joel argued that the states could and should take the lead in creating a more progressive economic future, in which the fruits of economic growth are widely shared and sustainably created. He said that we need collective action through government to ensure that working people can support their families in an era of downward pressure on wages from globalization; and he said that policies that encourage sustainability (smart growth, energy independence, etc.) can help eliminate waste and improve efficiency. He also said that collaboration among organizations at the state level is critical, and should be supported by a clear, concise description of what a progressive economic program would be about.
